The new 'egg experience' !

When it comes to buying and eating eggs, I distinctly remember as a kid the only thing my dad could say to our good old grocery store owner is to give us the biggest eggs out of the lot.  The shopkeeper used to then select the largest eggs often dotted with specks of dirt and place them tenderly in the transparent polythene bags.   Once back home these cherry picked eggs were carefully placed one by one in our fridge's egg tray by my dad, making sure they were safely secured.  I happily grew up eating omlettes made out of these dull white eggs, blissfully unaware about how and where the mommy hens were raised. I had no inkling of the fact if they were caged and cooped up in small cages or bred in open farms.  This was all until a visit to a nearby Whole Foods store in United States introduced me to organic green pasture raised 'humane' eggs. Welcome to the world of GMO free eggs ( Genetically modified Organism ) and the cage free standard ! I was ...
Early to bed , early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy , wise and ..Happy ! Its been nearly 2 months that I have started going to my office in the early shift and what a revelation it has been so far. I feel that starting early has introduced an element of stricter pattern into my already clock set routine. Except for a small lunch break in between, working incessantly from 7:30 AM till 4 PM has undoubtedly made my days far more productive and organised. It is pitch dark especially in the winters as I step out into the cold morning misty air. The gaurd on the morning duty knows my timing well by now and never fails to wish me a cheerful good morning. There is a much less traffic on the roads and I quickly reach the path train station which gets awashed with the soft morning light by then. The New York bound train chugs in at sharp 7:02 AM and I along with the other early risers board the almost empty train. It has started giving me a sense of pride to be the one amongst t...
A hot September afternoon at the Big Burp Deli I went for a long awaited shopping trip to Vashi yesterday with my dad. But as the day wore on, the oppressive heat and the dust took its toll and I frantically started searching for a place to soothe our aching feet and satiate our grumbling stomachs. We came across this cafe Big Burp Deli with its all black exterior and big bold lettered name. What struck me were the cute three pots of ferns hanging against the backdrop of the glass window with white curtains giving it a look of quaint European style cafe. The charming exterior looked very inviting and we decided to go in.  A small bell on the door chimed gently as I opened the door to step in. We seated ourselves comfortably in a corner overlooking  a wall covered with vintage photographs.   The interior of the cafe was very tastefully done up with fresh paintings, soft music and multicolo...

Random ramblings

"As I look out of my 27th floor office window into the blue Manhattan skyline, the white and grey cold mighty looking skyscrapers appear as if they are competing to get the biggest piece of the clear blue sky. Each trying to outshine one another just like little school children jostling to get attention in front of their teacher.." "The empty chairs in my office during the lunch hour seem to be silently conversing with each other. With the winter jackets of their occupants hung on their backs, it appeared that they were relishing these moments of quiet solitude of the lunch hour" "The train haltingly chugs into the platform as a reluctant child who plods his way to the school" "Perfectly made Rotis which don't need any nudging at all to blow up are like those childhood prodigies which bloom and blossom on their own with minimum efforts."

A cheery Ringtone

Tring Tring Setting a ringtone on the cellphone is a matter of personal choice. Some like to keep it plain and simple but some the customized ones. It was such a customized ringtone which made one of the drab and dull Monday mornings interesting. As I managed to squeeze myself into the 8:22 AM Manhattan bound train, I felt lucky enough to have t got a seat. To me, to be able to grab a seat in the rush hour crowd feels like winning a little trophy every morning. The mood was quiet and somber in the coach with most of my fellow passengers dressed in business formals with grim looking faces. The air was suffused with a mild sweet fragrance, typical of the morning hour on a working day. Some were busy reading books while a few others stared at their cellphones. Some like me were trying to doze of...

Moments of glory

It’s the month of December! The month full of Christmas festivities and holiday cheer. It was a typical cold and windy December evening yesterday when I returned home from work. As I approached my apartment I was thrilled to find a lovely sight. It felt as if a thousand twinkling stars from the heaven had descended upon the landscaped gardens surrounding our apartment. The entire complex shimmered with beautiful Christmas lights. The glittering trees which usually fade away into the darkness of the night seemed to have come alive. The twinkling lights had made the biggest tree right in the middle of the garden look like a bride adorned with exquisite j...

Snowy Confectionary

Imagine a garden full of row of bushes laden with sugar dusted lollipops and buns. Trees bearing bunches of snow white toffies and the path in the garden lined with frosty cupcakes.  Well, it is not a fairytale but my very own little backyard ! It had turned into a snowy wonderland after an overnight heavy snowfall. The snow covered bushes made them look like dusted with icing sugar. Their thick tiny snow covered leaves resembled white creamy cookies. Beads of snow too...
