Moments of glory

It’s the month of December! The month full of Christmas festivities and holiday cheer.
It was a typical cold and windy December evening yesterday when I returned home from work. As I approached my apartment I was thrilled to find a lovely sight. It felt as if a thousand twinkling stars from the heaven had descended upon the landscaped gardens surrounding our apartment. The entire complex shimmered with beautiful Christmas lights. The glittering trees which usually fade away into the darkness of the night seemed to have come alive.
The twinkling lights had made the biggest tree right in the middle of the garden look like a bride adorned with exquisite jewelry. Its crown was beautifully covered with a veil of hundreds of lights resembling a diamond studded robe. Its slender branches were entwined with glowing ornaments. I imagined the smaller decked up trees as her bridesmaids and the small bushes as the guests who had arrived at the wedding !
The trees seemed to be happily basking in the glory of the attention they were receiving. It is as if they knew that this period is going to be short-lived and wished to enjoy it to the fullest. People and children alike strolled around in the garden full of the shining little lights and happily posed for the pictures.

But Alas! this period of revelry would soon come to an end. Life would be back to the daily grind. When the building caretaker finally comes one morning to take the lights off the trees, I think he must be promising them that he would come back again next year to deck them up and give them these fleeting moments of glory once again.
