A hot September afternoon at the Big Burp Deli
I went for a long awaited shopping trip to Vashi yesterday with my dad. But as the day wore on, the oppressive heat and the dust took its toll and I frantically started searching for a place to soothe our aching feet and satiate our grumbling stomachs. We came across this cafe Big Burp Deli with its all black exterior and big bold lettered name. What struck me were the cute three pots of ferns hanging against the backdrop of the glass window with white curtains giving it a look of quaint European style cafe. The charming exterior looked very inviting and we decided to go in.
A small bell on the door chimed gently as I opened the door to step in. We seated ourselves comfortably in a corner overlooking a wall covered with vintage photographs. The interior of the cafe was very tastefully done up with fresh paintings, soft music and multicoloured cushion chairs stacked up against the wall adding a quirky touch. An array of sundry books placed neatly on a wooden plank completed the look.
The menu had an eclectic list of food items all of which looked tempting. We settled down on two Herbed mushroom pesto sliders,a mum's recipe slider, a shredded Paneer in Sriracha Mayo sandwich along with strawberry Oreo and Pan milkshakes (their speciality for the day).
The mum's receipe sliders were amazingly crisp and tasted divine. The Herbed mushroom Pesto was faintly reminiscent of the mushroom sandwich I used to cherish at Nirula's in Delhi, ages ago. The paneer grilled sandwich was equally sumptuous with a liberal spread of mayo. All this washed down with a wholesome glass of strawberry Oreo and Pan milkshake made for a filling and delightful evening meal.
We stepped out of the little cafe, pleased with the fact that our shopping trip to Vashi had ended on such a sweet gastronomical delight.
The three pots of ferns which had lured me in swayed gently in the breeze outside. They had not failed me at all indeed.
