Happy Friday !
It was one fine morning in the office when I was
checking my emails, that my eyes caught an email invite from my colleague Joe with
the title 'Murray’s Bagels on my desk'. The word bagel suddenly made me
hungrier and my half empty stomach grumbled as I quickly opened the
email to read its contents. Murray’s Bagels
are well known in the New York city for its fresh handmade bagels. It went like this,
'Murray's bagels at my desk, for those of you who know
Murray's bakery in Manhattan.
Come fast before they are finished!
Happy Thursday, well almost Friday!
I couldn’t help smiling when I read the last line. It was just the start of the Thursday morning, but the thought of
the approaching Friday was already on Joe's mind! There is something undoubtedly magical
about working on a Friday. The cheery note in everyone’s voice when wishing ‘happy
Friday’ to each other is unmistakable. It is the phrase which brings instant
bouts of joy to all tired souls slogging all the way through the long week.
The much awaited Friday of every week – the harbinger of the
cherished weekend. If the Mondays are dull and quiet then the Fridays are
definitely cheerful and bright. If there is any day of the week which is even more
special than the weekend then it is the Friday.
There are happy hours drinks everywhere and the mood on the
Subway is merrier than being solemn and quiet.
It is not uncommon to have elaborate team lunches planned on
Friday afternoons. The harmless goof ups or glitches at work are sometimes brushed
off with clichés likes ‘Oh common, it’s a Friday!”
It is almost a sin to ask someone to work late on a Friday
evening. And as it should be obvious to the reader by now, there could be no
greater tragedy to befall on a worker who has to sit late to complete his work
on a Friday evening.
And if at all the Friday of the week gets clubbed with a
public holiday on the following week's Monday, then it seems like a divine
bonus.
But Alas! Time waits for nobody and the weekend flies past
with the blink of an eye. In no time the Monday blues start to sink in. Work
piles up and the office humdrum begins. The wait to see the Friday of the week snowballs
with each passing day. But surely it won’t be long enough before we wish each
other a cheery 'HAPPY FRIDAY!’.
